The different strains of marijuana
Marijuana strains are pure or hybrid varieties, typically these are either cannabis sativa (marijuana) or indica (putative species), these varieties are created to enhance specific characteristics of the plant, or to differentiate a strain for drug marketing purposes. At Grow Shop Online we know that different seeds are also developed for medicinal purposes; the names are chosen by those who develop them.
The variety of names in some cases reflects the properties of the plants, such as color, taste, smell or origin of the variety. Many of the varieties known as hashish have low cannabinoid content.
Types of varieties
– Single-Strain Clone: The grower can distribute genetically identical clones of the plant. The clone is the only way to reproduce the plant so that they can obtain exactly the same genetic material. However, the conditions under which the plant grows will affect the final product.
– Stable variety seed: Creating a genetically stable variety involves selectively choosing the male and female of the cannabis plant, reproducing them over many generations. The seeds generated will grow into plants that have all the desired characteristics, although some genetic variation may still occur.
– Unstable variety seed: These varieties are produced without many generations of breeding. So they can be produced very fast, the flat ones that grow from these seeds, but they can also have a lot of different characteristics. The grow shop generally does not sell these types of varieties, as they are understood to be disreputable and very unstable.
– Wild varieties: some varieties, such as Colombian and Thai varieties, refer to cannabis plants growing wild in certain regions. Usually these plants are used as the basis for the production of much more specialized varieties such as G-13 or Haze.
The two most commonly grown groups of species as mentioned above are Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa, a third species is Cannabis ruderalis, the latter is very small and produces only small amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) but is not commonly developed for industrial, recreational or medical use.
Pure sativas are relatively tall (up to 4.5 meters) with long branches and elongated leaves as well. While the indica species is a much smaller, shrub-like variety, which has wider leaves, they are generally preferred for indoor growing because of their size. An important difference between these two is that sativas flower after the indica, usually taking a month or two to mature.
The effects of these two species are said to be different, but the ratio of THC to cannabidiol (CBD) in most of the more named strains is similar, 100 to 1.
Hybrid plants generally mix different ratios of these three common types. One example is the White Widow plant, which you can find in your online grow shop, they have ancestors that are about 60% Indica and 40% Sativa, that is they come from two pure plants of these types.
Knowing that there is a variety of medical marijuana seeds can sometimes be confusing to decide which one to grow depending on the condition you want to treat, as different strains can treat different diseases. Whether you try to buy it as part of a club or grow it at home there are hundreds of varieties available, it is difficult to choose as experiences vary from person to person.
When choosing a strain it is important to know how to measure the effects on the body, this is through THC and CBD, in most medicinal use THC is the main ingredient while CBD is a small portion. For example, a plant with a potent strain has 15-19% THC and only 1% CBD; this proportion is critical in how cannabis affects the patient.
Cannabidiol is not a psychoactive ingredient by itself, but it can impact on the medicinal benefits of cannabis and also vary the effects of THC. The effects of the indica strain are sedative, relaxing, and therefore very useful in the treatment of muscle spasms and tremors, as well as chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, among others.
In Grow Shop Online we know that the sativa strain gives energy, its varieties are effective in the treatment of nausea (caused by chemotherapy treatments), stimulate appetite, reduce migraine, depression and other symptoms.
